Sorry for the delay, Cris! You will NOT lose your rewards if you downgrade your CSP. You simply won’t be able to redeem them for more than 1 cent until you again have a CSP or CSR (or Ink Preferred). Also, there is no ding to your credit when downgrading. They don’t pull your credit score, and you’ll keep your same credit card number and everything.
There is NOT a branch option to waive the $95 annual fee — our cards writer, Karen, went to a branch to specifically ask them. Not only were they unwilling to waive the annual fee, but they were only offering 50k points!

I have a Freedom and Freedom Unlimited but transfer rewards to SP. Also, is there a branch option to waive the $95/first year? Assume the Freedom Flex has no annual fee…..Is there a ding to my credit for the downgrade? Thanks for any clarifications! Appreciate it.

Would that disqualify me from getting the currently sapphire preferred offer? Should I close the Sapphire regular account prior to signing up for this deal?

Honestly if it were me, I’d still wait a couple weeks to apply. I don’t have any data that proves this method more effective, it just seems like Chase would view that as less shady.

No problem! You should wait until your statement close date before applying.

All great questions! Let me go one by one:
– The CSP has the exact same rental car insurance as the CSR, so nothing lost there. And yes it’s a great benefit.
– Chase will prorate your annual fee if you downgrade to a Freedom.
– You’ll have to wait one year after you open the CSP before you product change to a CSR. I’ve never heard of Chase not allowing someone to product change, although you may need a certain credit limit to change (probably $10,000). If you aren’t approved for a $10k credit line with the CSP, just tell Chase you want to move some credit from one of your existing cards to equal $10k when you plan to product change to the CSR.
– There are many other cards that offer Priority Pass, if you don’t want to live without it for the next year. And many of them are AMAZING, and I recommend you have one or two of them anyway. You can read this: https://millionmilesecrets.com/guides/priority-pass-membership/

But this is the issue… If I downgrade my Chase Sapphire reserve to the freedom unlimited or freedom flex then I lose my benefits which I really enjoy of priority lounges and very good auto rental insurance and coverages with the CSR. Do any of these other Chase products cover the auto insurance aswell as athe Chase Sapphire reserve card does ?What are your thoughts on the benefit of getting the CSPwith its big bonus versus having the CSR with its great auto insurance coverage for car rentals and a priority pass lounge access as I travel internationally a lot.
Also I just applied for my CSR renewal within the last month or two? So how will that work with the fee that I paid? Do they prorate it or? Also will I be allowed to move back up to the chase Sapphire reserve? After what pair of time of having a Chase Sapphire preserve can I upgrade back to the Chase Sapphire reserve? Are there cases when they deny people to get back up to the Chase Sapphire reserves? If so what types of cases? Thank you

Yes that’s right! That’s why you’ll want to downgrade your card instead of cancelling. I’d recommend asking for a product change to a Chase Freedom Flex, so you get its valuable 5% rotating bonus categories.Your points will be preserved with a downgrade, because you’ll still have a card that earns Ultimate Rewards.
